  • To the Editor: The studies reported by Priebe et al.1 will undoubtedly be quoted frequently and will influence the care of severely ill patients. Some unclear or unspecified details compromise the conclusions and may nullify the apparent advantage of antacids reported. To what extent did selection of only 14 per cent of admissions influence the outcome of the study? The duration of the study (mean, 50 hours in the cimetidine group and 43 hours in the antacid group, with a range of eight days) is highly skewed and was determined by removal of the nasogastric tube or transfer out of. © 1980, Massachusetts Medical Society.
