Renal cell-to-cell communication via extracellular ATP

Academic Article

Abstract

  • In the kidney, macula densa cells communicate with the mesangial cell-afferent arteriolar smooth muscle cell complex through ATP signaling. This signaling process involves release of ATP across the macula densa basolateral membrane through a maxi anion channel and the interaction of ATP with purinergic P2 receptors. ©2005 Int.
