Preparation and characterisation of permethylated derivatives of bile acids, and their application to gas chromatographic analysis

Abstract

  • Permethylation of bile acids was achieved in a one-step reaction with sodium methylsulfinylmethanide and methyl iodide in dimethylsulfoxide. The products were characterised by proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and by gas—liquid chromatography—mass spectrometry. The derivatives were separated by gas—liquid chromatography on a SP-2250 wall coated 30-m glass capillary column: formation of permethylated products was quantitative over the range 5–50 nmol for each bile acid. © 1980, All rights reserved.
