Overview

  • Dr. Lloyd received his BS from Auburn University and his MD (1997) and Ph.D. (Physics, 1996) from Emory University. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease, with emphasis on Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, in 2004. After completing fellowship, Dr. Lloyd joined the faculty at UAB as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Disease. He is currently Professor of Medicine and Radiology and Associate Division Director for Education and Training, and serves as the Program Director of the Cardiovascular Disease Residency Program and as Head of the Section for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance. Dr. Lloyd coordinates the clinical and research activities of the UAB Cardiovascular MRI Center, where he guided the facility to accreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission-MRI in 2007—making it the first Cardiovascular MR Center fully reviewed and accredited by this agency. It has been continuously accredited since that time. Dr. Lloyd’s research interests involve utilizing cardiac magnetic resonance to assess cardiac systolic and diastolic function and vascular physiology. He is a Past President of the Alabama Chapter of the American College of Cardiology (2012 – 2015) and serves on the ACC Young Investigators Awards Committee.
