Midge N. Ray, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Health Services Administration and an Associate Scientist in the UAB Minority Health & Health Disparities Research Center . She has Master’s degrees in both nursing and education and a PhD in Health Behavior. Dr. Ray currently teaches in the Master of Science (MS) in Health Care Quality and Safety Program and Health Informatics Program. Course responsibilities include Integrative HQS Capstone Experience, HI Capstone Projects, Healthcare Requirements Analysis, and HQS Population Health. As investigator, her research has included using technology in health behavior change (tobacco cessation in medical and dental practices), safe medication use, and medication adherence in primary care practices. Dr. Ray is also an investigator in research on hospital acquired infections project and factors associated with nursing home performance. Dr. Ray is a subject matter expert in ICD-9-CM, CPT, ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems. She has over 50 publications in peer reviewed journals and author of several book chapters. She is also the Faculty Coordinator for the implementation of the UAB Profiles tool that creates an internal profile of faculty and instrumental in the development of Scholars at UAB which is the public profile of UAB faculty. Dr. Ray's professional activities has included service on the UAB Tobacco Cessation for Patients Initiative, the UAB Distinguished Professor and University Professor Review Committees, the UAB Athletics Advisory Board, Student Athletic Opportunity and Welfare Subcommittee, SHP Strategic Planning Committee and School of Health Professions Faculty Affairs Committee.
