• Dr. Luz M. Reyes obtained her Master’s degree in Genetics at the National University of Colombia in Bogota, Colombia. She completed her Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics at the North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC.

Genetics, Cell Biology, and Molecular Biology constitute the main areas that Dr. Reyes has explored as a scientist. Her research has been focused on the genetic characterization of the swine class I and class II MHC complex. Currently she is working in the creation of knockout pigs using Cas 9 nuclease and guide RNAs system.

Prior to coming to the University of Alabama at Birmingham, she worked as a Research Assistant Professor at the Department of Surgery, School of Medicine at Indiana University.
