Dr. Jodie Dionne is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the UAB Division of Infectious Diseases, Chief of Women's Health at the 1917 HIV Clinic, and the Associate Director of Global Health in the UAB Center for Women's Reproductive Health. As a physician-scientist who joined the faculty at UAB in 2013, Dr. Dionne leads clinical trials to identify new ways to treat and prevent infections in women and pregnancy.
Dr. Dionne's global health studies focus on preventing syphilis and hepatitis B among pregnant women in Cameroon and Zambia. She also leads multicenter clinical trials in the US to test new tools and/or new regimens to treat and prevent of syphilis and gonorrhea. She is co-chair of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Validation Committee for the Elimination of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B (EMTCT+), a member of the CDC/HRSA advisory committee on HIV, Viral Hepatitis and STD Prevention and Treatment and the Alabama STD Medical Advisory Council. Dr. Dionne also teaches and mentors students and trainees working to improve pregnancy infection outcomes.
