Dr. B. Earl Salser Jr. is an Associate Professor of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He is board certified in Family Medicine. Dr. Salser is passionate about medical student education and is the Director of the Division of Medical Student Education for the Department. He is also the Clerkship Director for Family Medicine for the Birmingham Campus, and is instrumental in getting students engaged with community family medicine through local preceptors. He also is the Faculty Sponsor for the UASOM Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) and is actively seeking to recruit new family medicine physicians for the State of Alabama. His research, education and service revolve around promoting primary care development at the UAB School of Medicine. He is director of the UASOM Dean’s Primary Care Scholars program and is active in developing this program to help provide primary care for the State of Alabama. Dr. Salser has also helped develop and foster an ongoing Longitudinal Curriculum grant to retain medical student interest in Family Medicine and Primary Care. Dr. Salser is also a former Clinical Skills Scholar, a current committee member of the Children’s Hospital Pediatric CME Committee and has served on the UASOM UAB School of Medicine Admissions Committee. He has received the Argus Award two years in a row for excellence in clinical teaching on the Birmingham Campus and is also listed in B Metro Magazine’s Top Doctors for Alabama for 3 years consecutively. He also has been recognized for Excellence in Patient Communication in 2018. Dr. Salser is actively engaged in using his medical skills to serve underserved populations in international communities and has been involved with refugee medical care, both nationally and internationally. He is involved with student education in internationally underserved countries, and has been involved with scholarly activity regarding international medicine.
