    Research Overview

  • In 2001, I realized that highly active antiretroviral therapy was changing the demographic profile of HIV. Now, we are witnessing this change with the graying of the epidemic. In fact, by 2015 half of those with HIV will be 50 and older. Sadly, many older adults with HIV express a cognitive frailty phenotype that interferes with everyday functioning, quality of life, and healthcare. Although I publish across disciplines, I focus primarily in nursing since nurses are on the frontline in providing health care to these adults.
