Overview

  • Dr. Edwards is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He is also the Assistant Section Chief for Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Birmingham Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He received his medical degree from UAB, graduating summa cum laude in 2011. He then completed his internal medicine residency at UAB in 2014 and served as a Chief Medicine Resident at UAB through 2015. He completed his fellowship training in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at UAB in 2018. Dr. Edwards is an active member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy as well as the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

  • Teaching Overview

  • Dr. Edwards attends on the inpatient GI Ward and GI Consult services at UAB Hospital with medical students, residents, and fellows. He sees inpatient consults with GI fellows at the Birmingham VA Medical Center where he also instructs and supervises GI fellows in the endoscopy unit. Dr. Edwards regularly participates in morning teaching reports with internal medicine residents at UAB Hospital and the Birmingham VA Medical Center. He is also active in the UAB School of Medicine GI Organ System module each year, providing lectures and serving as a small group facilitator as well as a content expert for simulated patient cases.
